What is Reflexology?

Foot Massage Session
Foot Massage Session

Reflexology is a complementary  therapy that involves applying targeted pressure to specific points on the feet, hands, or ears. Based on the theory that these "reflex zones" correspond to specific organs and body systems, practitioners use this to promote deep relaxation and support overall wellbeing

How can reflexology help me?

This is a question where depending who you ask, you'll get a different answer - and beware of anyone claiming it's a cure all!

At its most basic, reflexology helps you relax.  When you relax your body diverts its resources away from stress responses (think fight or flight) to other areas, such as digestion, the immune or reproductive systems.  This is why I can confidently say reflexology will support you.

It has also been proven that the reflexology points do have an effect on the areas they relate to.  This is why tailored treatment plans can have an effect to help target specific problems.  But  this is still supporting your body's healing.

What it's not -

  • An 'Alternate' therapy - the term now is 'Complimentary'.  Why?  No-one should be claiming that reflexology is an alternative to western medicine.  It does however compliment it, working along side to help you.

  • A cure - I wish it was that powerful, I really do, but beware anyone claiming it is.

  • Diagnostic - I have found some amazing things through reflexology since starting (which I'm always happy to talk about) but if you have any worries about your health, go see the Dr - not me!

Specific types of reflexology

Hand reflexology

Hot Stone Reflexology

A routine developed around research into psychoneuroimmunology - how our emotions, affect our nervous system, and our immune system.  Great for stress or low mood.

A shorter treatment working your hands instead of your feet.  Very relaxing and impactful, but with some key trades offs against foot reflexology.
